Marist Football Club
Marist nearly produced a remarkable comeback having reduced to 10men and had to come back twice from 2-0 down to level 3-3 before downed 4-3.
Having gone 2-0 behind after reduced to 10men, Marist nearly produced a remarkable comeback but ultimately goals from Guilherme and Diego proved in vain as we suffered a first defeat this season.
Midfielder Joachim Waroi was sent off early in the second half after trailing 1-0 at halftime. The task got harder as Solomon Warriors struck again from a controversial decision from the referee to allow play on despite his lines man waving for foul on Guilherme eventually leading up to Warriors second goal.
But 10-men Marist rallied and showed great character to get back in the game. Midway through the second half, the Brazilian centre forward Guilherme scored a goal from penalty after foul on Atkin Kaua inside the box. Few minutes later, the Brazilian centre back Diego headed home a superb goal from Marcelo’s free kick just outside the box to level 2-2. Solomon Warriors restored the lead 3-2 after a defensive blunder at the back allowing Gagame Feni to poke home past the running keeper. Marist responded almost immediately with a goal again from Guilherme in the 80mins to level 3-3. Despite their numerical advantage, Marist refuse to back down as the men in sky blue press high and high looking for the winning goal.
It was all Marist in the closing stages and the final late scramble nearly produced a sensational winner. As the game went deeper into the final seconds, Warriors struck their fourth from Gagame with a long drive, charging forward on the right before unleashing a powerful strike from an acute angle, went straight into the net. Match ended 4-3 to Solomon Warriors. Marist are still second on the table (7points) despite the defeat, Solomon Warriors are now runaway leaders with 12points.
It was not to be, though, and Marist must now recover from the defeat and focus on Sunday’s clash against Real Kakamora next on the agenda.
