The first ever Solomon Islands professional futsal player, arguably the king of Oceania futsal, inspirational captain Elliott Ragomo is settling in well with Minas Tenis Futsal Clube in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Speaking from Brazil, Ragomo excitedly admitted he is adapting to life in Brazil.
“I am adapting well to the futsal culture here in Brazil, I’m grateful for being here, realising a dream, playing in Brazil. The sky is the limit, I am here to show that we Solomon islanders can be as good as the Brazilians.” “It’s not easy coming from a country where we tend to relax, here in Brazil there’s no time for that.” Ragomo stated, they do take tests, and receive feedbacks every week, "it’s a total different level from what i used to back in Honiara.”
“The trainers and coaches monitor us individually closely, even criticize us, pushed us to a whole new level"
he said. “The level of training here is totally different, we trained five days a week, Monday to Friday, only rest on Saturdays and Sundays”
Despite settling in well, Ragomo also highlighted few challenges he faced which he hope to overcome soon.
“My biggest challenge here would be the language (Portuguese) which I am still learning at the moment. Most of all is intelligence. The pace and quickness of the game here is incredible that you don’t have much time to think”.
“There’s a difference in the speed of thought. Usually back home we don’t make decisions quickly enough, here it’s different and learning that takes repetition in game situations, and a lot of it.”
"Day by day I am feeling more comfortable, it wasn’t easy but I think I did well” he said. “We spent a lot of time on training just to put everything into perfect to grow mentally, physically, tactically, technically and for myself I am always spiritually fit”.
Solomon Islands Kurukuru Captain Elliot Ragomo is living the dream in Brazil and his story shows just what we can achieve despite coming from a tiny small island nation Solomon Islands.
