Marist Football Club
Marist starting 11 today, pre-season friendly at DC Park.
Our boys lost to Henderson Eels 3-1 in a friendly match played 4pm today at DC Park.
With the absence of Head coach Juliano Schmeling and few key senior players today, the boys were guided by the assistant coach Jerry Allen. Our side could not recover from strong start by the Eels despite coming back stronger in the second half.
Henderson Eels fielded its star studded side with the likes of Joses Nawo, Fred Kini, Alick Maemae, Tutizama, Dennis Ifunaoa to name a few. Our lads started slowly, allowing Eels to dominate most of the half in the opening 20 minutes. Henderson Eels were 1-0 up in just 8mins from start, Ifunaoa corner kick was slammed into the empty net. Eels continue to look dangerous when they advanced on the wings and they doubled the advantage just before halftime when Dennis Ifunaoa excelled in teeing up Tutizama for a far post volley.
Marist came back into the second half with a relatively new line up. Just 7 minutes of second half passed and
Eels were already 3-0 up from a spot kick after Ifunaoa was brought down inside the 18yard box. Marist re-grouped and begin to find the rhythm, came back looking for goals.
Marist needed some time of possession, which was achieved midway through the half. The result after a couple of smart exchanges, our lads find the back of the net in 62min when 2nd half substitute centre forward Mathias Ian lashed in a goal with venom from a well taken cross.
The later stage of the second half was a more even fair with Nata, Martin, Fred Bala and Michael Sira were introduced in the back four, Davidson tome and Joachim kairi on left and right wing. Marist was awarded with a penalty in the 90mins, however, the penalty kick taker Fred Bala missed the target, sending the ball out wide. Our boys came so close in the dying minutes with a lot of quick breaks on the right but in the end, time ran out on the quest to salvage a draw.
