Guilherme nets hat trick as Marist cruise to big friendly win over west Honiara.
Marist bounced back from a friendly defeat to Henderson Eels on Thursday with an emphatic win over West Honiara at NAC today. Guilherme hits hat trick as Davidson, Alwin and Leeroy were also on the score sheet. Our new defender Diego also made his first start today as Marist player.
There were four different scorers for Marist today as Guilhereme puts the hosts 1-0 ahead in just 8mins from a penalty. Guilhereme than doubled the advantage in 22mins from a well weighted defence splitting pass from Thomas Amasia. Right winger Davidson made it 3-0 just before the break with a well weighted shot from outside the box, hits the far post before rolling into the empty net.
Marist were enjoying a predictable strong start, with full-backs Laua and John Rofeta bombing down wide side of the field, sending crosses into West Honiara box. Despite 3-0 down at halftime, West Honiara refuse to give up as they drive forward on the counter attacks. The visitor’s confidence increases following few good efforts as they begin to string a succession of passes together, but Marist were quickly to reassert their dominance when they got the chance. And taking the chance they did, with second half substitute Alwin handing Marist a deserved 4-0 lead in the 56th mins with a clinical low finish following a scrappy defending by the visitors.
There was no stopping Marist, and who better to embody that than Guliherme, for there was literally no stopping him for the 5th. The Brazilian unleased an unstoppable strike from inside the 18yard box only to find the back of the net. Leeroy Namasia came off the bench in the 76th mins and headed in the 6th goal from close range.
Speaking to the players after match, head coach Juliano was pleased with the overall performance.
“It’s not about the result, it’s the performance that matters. He said. ‘’I’ve switched some of you to different positions, not your usual positions because I want you to understand how you play the ball possessions, and to get into your positions. It’s important to try you out in your unfamiliar roles.” He said. Marist will be playing few more friendlies next week before S-League kick-off next following week.
